Hello, I'm a rookie at the forum thing. I'm looking for advise in the menengitus community regarding my wife Debby who is is a month removed from a three day hospital stay with viral menengitus. Sunsequently, she has persistent headaches as severe as when she was diagnosed. No neck pain or trunk pain but headaches to the point where she's beginning to need narcotic help to maintain.

My question is that while she's not been active she has been a functioning mother and running our company mostly tasks include computer/phone work. Should she unplug from everything and take it easy? Will that make her better faster? I've read and heard horror stories about virla menin. triggereing chronic pain and headaches and I'm hoping we will be lucky and this is just still part of her healoing process.

I thank anyone that has some personla knowledge or experience.

Stephen

Hi,

Headaches do seem to linger. Do her headaches get better when she lays down? If this is the case she may be suffering from a spinal fluid leak. This can happen after LP. In that case she may need a blood patch to help the dura heal. Otherwise strict bed rest with no twisting bending or lifting. The more she can rest the better. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Hi Stephen,
I'm five months post-meningitis and the headaches, while daily, are not debilitating as they were at onset and for the first several weeks. Although everyone reacts differently, perhaps my experience will give Debby hope. Naturally you've talked with her doctor and have access to drugs--she should not feel ashamed or weak for taking medicine, as I did. Tell her this disease is far meaner than she is and not to underestimate it!
