Nicholas Irving

June 12, 2003 to November 22, 2003

On November 22, 2003 My son Nicholas Irving passed away. He was 5 months and ten days old. We went to the emergency room in the morning he was running a fever of 105.1. We were told after waiting four hours that he only had an ear infection. We were discharged around 4:30 and we went home 3 hours later he started breathing really shallow and was becoming covered in little bruises all over his body. By the time the ambulance got there he was hardly breathing at all. We followed the ambulance to the hospital and was told by the doctor that our son had no chance that he had only seen five cases and all five the patient did not pull through. The doctor came back in 15 minutes later and told us that at 8:43pm our baby had passed away. It was the most heartbreaking moment of my entire life. We held our baby for hours in the emergency room until we had to pull ourselves away. This has been the hardest journey in my life and I know I'm just at the beginning.
